The Downtown Art & Event Space celebrated its Grand Opening!
WILKES-BARRE — The Downtown Art and Event Space celebrated its grand opening Monday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its new space on South Washington Street. As previously reported by the Times leader, the 1,800-square-foot event space seats up to 75 people and can be adapted to fit a variety of functions such as birthday parties, bridal showers and banquets. Parking for the venue will be at St. Nicolas Church, located at 226 S. Washington St.
Owner Ashley Rushing said in a press release that after a decade working as a nurse, she wanted to explore another, more creative career path as well as provide an affordable, yet upscale venue for the community. She said “I began this business with only $10 and an idea. The Spark Program, combined with good old-fashioned sweat equity, allowed my idea to become a reality.”
For the grand opening, The Downtown Art And Event Space is offering a deal of 20% off all bookings at 8 hours through the Peerspace website and any bookings at 8 hours will also get the full day to allow for set up and decorations. The deal runs through April and May and includes parking across the street for up to 9 spaces free.

I started The Downtown Art And Event Space for several reasons. Firstly, after a decade of working as a nurse, I wanted to embark on a new career path that allowed me to explore my passion for event planning and creativity. Secondly, I noticed a lack of affordable event space options in our community, especially for individuals and small businesses. Therefore, I aimed to establish a venue that offered competitive rates while still maintaining an upscale and intimate atmosphere. The distinctive ambiance created by our unique drip lights hanging from the ceiling sets us apart. Additionally, collaborating with local businesses and independent contractors was a key motivation. We wanted to provide customers with the opportunity to support and hire local caterers, decorators, photographers, vendors, and more. By fostering this sense of community and collaboration, we aim to create a space that not only serves our customers but also supports the growth of the local economy.
